We had been discussing as a team a desire to have a charity partner we could support that resonated with our values of helping others and changing lives, and one that we would be able to apply our skills and connections to collaborate and work together. Then reading the Marie Claire in September 2022, the answer naturally came to us with an inspiring article about Andie Halas and the work of Thread Together.

Our first meeting with the team at the Thread Together warehouse was one of immediate respect and admiration for the incredible work they are doing across their community.   This year our team will be supporting Thread Together with everything they lack the time to do and to expand their connections with our extensive community of over years of working with corporate partners and suppliers.

Thread Together believe circumstances and disadvantages should not prevent people from accessing clothing to allow them to realise their full potential.

Did you know that one third of new clothing goes from factory to landfill, whilst one in eight adults and one in six children do not have adequate access to essential clothing.

Founded in 2012 by Andie Halas, a woman who had an idea to gather unsold clothing from fashion retailers and provide them to people in need.

Thread Together addresses this uncomfortable truth by saving new clothing from going to landfill and providing these clothes to people in need.

TWO PROBLEMS, ONE SOLUTION
The Fashion Industry is one of the largest polluting industries in the world. What’s more, in addition to the impact of clothing production on the environment, around one third of all new clothing is not sold and ends up being sent to landfill or incinerated.

Sustainability is a topic we discuss daily with our clients and why we have been drawn to the exceptional work of Thread Together supporting their communities to reduce the footprint in the fashion industry.

THREAD TOGETHER’S MODEL IS VERY SIMPLE

Thread Together collects end-of-the-line brand new stock from fashion retailers around the country. With the support of volunteers, the clothes are sorted in readiness to be distributed to people in need through their national network of charities and social service agencies.

WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

There are so many ways that individuals and groups can help Thread Together and they are always looking for more volunteers who are motivated to make a difference.

Recent research by Great Place to Work revealed that when teams participate in a worthwhile activity for a good cause, a sense of teamwork is fostered and employees feel more satisfied and motivated, resulting in higher staff morale and engagement.

CORPORATE AND GROUP VOLUNTEERING

Thread Together welcomes corporate groups and other teams looking for unique and meaningful team-building activity or community support day.

Listen to stories shared by a speaker impacted by the Thread Together work, help the team pack and sort clothing that goes directly to people in need and learn how they collaborate with generous partners to help over 2,000 people every week.

HOW CAN WE VOLUNTEER AS A GROUP

Sydney
Sorting new clothing and fulfilling client orders for groups of 15-20, or up to 40 for two groups taking part in a ‘gamified’ volunteering experience. The fulfillment centre in Banksmeadow is where a lot of the magic happens. It’s the heart of where Thread Together receive and distribute brand new clothing.  The Thread Together team welcome volunteers to assist in sorting clothing into categories and sizes as well as fulfill orders by picking clothing and packing it for distribution. It’s a great team building day where everyone will walk away with a sense of accomplishment.
