Owners Jamie Nimmo and Kieran Day have brought English tradition to Enmore Road with The Stinking Bishops, a boutique cheese bar and retailer (known from it’s origins as a very smelly English cheese, the cheese was brought to international attention by a brief but important role in the Oscar-winning 2005 animated film Wallac & Gromit; in which it was used to revive Wallace from the dead. Demand for the cheese subsequently rose by 500%).  

Located on Enmore Road, this local is one to drop in to buy a selection of delicious cheese from your friendly local providore or pull up a chair, grab a glass of wine and enjoy a trip to the world’s farmhouses and dairies through the nearly 30 Australian and international cheeses on the menu.   

SONY DSCA visit during the day must include one of The Stinking Bishops mouthwatering toasted cheese sandwiches, ”Mr Crispy”.  The pressed sandwiches served with a choice of three ways: thin slices of smoked wagyu, gruyere, horseradish mayonnaise and pickles; Barossa ham, cheddar, tomato jam and mustard; or Heidi Tilsit, raw mushroom and truffle mayonnaise.

Or why not drop in on the way home on a chilly winters night for an excellent menu of British comfort fare by co-owner Kieran Day of slow cooked beef cheek with olive oil, duck rillettes with plum jam, pork pie with fruit pickle, and smoked mackerel with new potatoes, house labna and sprouts. The house specialty cheese boards start from $20 and come accompanied with quince, fig-and-walnut rolada, crackers, and bread by Grain Organic Bakery (you will be back for the bread).
