MB2Spring Racing is a great time for the gents to demonstrate their individuality! With Derby Day is nearly upon us, kick starting a week of racing and fine fashion, our Lifestyle team have put together your essential styling guide to get you race ready.

Racing is an opportunity for our male members to break away from their working week persona and really show their own personal style.

Accessories are an important consideration for well-dressing racing gents.  These can include a timeless dress watch, a quality pocket square; tie bar, lapel pin or cufflinks that will take your outfit from a good one to a fabulous one.

Henry Bucks2AAMI Derby Day
The traditional Derby Day is black and white and has a true sense of occasion with tailor-made suiting.  Tradition on Derby Day dictates for the gents to wear a classic dark suit or grey morning suit with peacock vest, top hat and the flower of the day; cornflower worn on the lapel.  The more modern approach to Derby Day is to tailor your ensemble on the theme of black and white with a dark suit and crisp white shirt or why not add a little style with a crisp white jacket, white shirt and black pants and shoes.

  • The official flower is blue cornflower
  • Make sure your shirt is fresh and crisp
  • Wear a shirt with cufflinks
  • Add black and white prints, florals or patterns to your socks, tie or pocket square
  • Polished and shining black leather shoes or why not add a shiny patent leather pair to your ensemble
  • For a cheeky edge add a pair of bright coloured socks under your suit pant
  • Take an umbrella in case it rains

Henry Bucks3Emirates Melbourne Cup
This is your opportunity for the gents to make a strong fashion statement and and show your own personal style as Melbourne Cup is a day of bold colours and the latest trends – it’s not called the race that stops a nation for nothing.  Dress up your suit with a shirt and tie combination that really pops or why not combine colour, textures and prints.

  • The official flower is a yellow rose
  • Create a lasting impressing by adding a pop of colour to your racing attire with a bright pair of socks sneaking out from underneath your suit pants or a pocket square to complete the look
  • When choosing a bold blue suit, detail your outfit with a brown belt and shoes
  • Pocket squares shouldn’t match your tie exactly, it should be a contrast

Henry Bucks4Crown Oaks Day

Oaks Day is all about the ladies. so why not compliment the outfit of your lady by choosing accessories from the same colour palette of her outfit. This is a day to take a more casual approach to your outfit, consider a light coloured suit with a slight sheen or in a soft linen to mix the week up from Derby and Cup Day.

  • The official flower for Oaks Day is the “pink rose”
  • Pastel colours, floral prints and soft fabrics are right on trend for Oaks Day
  • Match soft pinks with shades of grey
