Made Simple by Danielle Alvarez.

The very best in home cooking, without the fuss.

For anyone who believes the best meals are the ones that bring people together, Danielle Alvarez’s new cookbook, Made Simple, is a beautiful addition to the kitchen.

Celebrated chef, home cook, columnist and cookbook author Danielle Alvarez has spent decades refining the art of making food that is both exceptional and achievable. Now, with Made Simple, she brings that philosophy into the home kitchen with more than 80 recipes designed around simplicity, confidence and really good food.

Danielle has a rare ability to take familiar ingredients and transform them into something that feels a little more special. Her cooking is thoughtful without being complicated, generous without being fussy, and grounded in the belief that great food starts with great ingredients.

Made Simple is a collection of recipes for the way we actually want to cook at home. Recipes that are achievable on a weeknight, impressive enough for entertaining and delicious enough to become part of your regular repertoire.

Rather than relying on unnecessary techniques, elaborate presentation or endless ingredients, Danielle strips cooking back to its essentials. She focuses on what belongs on the plate, what can be left out and how a few well-chosen ingredients can create something truly delicious.

The result is over 80 recipes for simple perfection. Food that feels familiar while offering that extra something that makes Danielle’s cooking so distinctive.

From Some of the World’s Best Kitchen’s To Yours

Originally from the United States, Danielle Alvarez developed her culinary career in some of California’s most respected kitchens, including Chez Panisse and The French Laundry, before moving to Australia in 2014.

In 2016, she opened Fred’s in Sydney, quickly establishing herself as one of Australia’s most respected chefs. The acclaimed two-hatted restaurant became known for its produce-driven cooking, open-fire techniques and celebration of locally sourced ingredients.

At the heart of Danielle’s food philosophy is a respect for the ingredients themselves. Rather than overcomplicating a dish, she allows seasonal produce to take centre stage, using thoughtful techniques to bring out its natural flavour.

In 2022, Danielle stepped away from restaurants and returned to the home kitchen — a move that allowed her to explore a different side of cooking and share her knowledge in a way that could be enjoyed by everyone.

She now writes a regular recipe column for Good Weekend magazine and publishes her fortnightly Made Simple newsletter, sharing recipes, stories and practical ideas designed to make cooking at home a little easier.

She is also the Culinary Director of Events at the Sydney Opera House, bringing her distinctive approach to food and hospitality to one of Australia’s most iconic venues.

Made Simple is her third cookbook, following her previous publications and continuing her commitment to making beautiful, thoughtful food accessible beyond the restaurant kitchen.

Cooking, Made Simple.

What makes Made Simple particularly special is Danielle’s understanding that home cooking doesn’t need to be complicated to be impressive.

The book is built around the idea that cooking well is about understanding a few simple principles: buying good ingredients, knowing how to treat them and having the confidence to let them shine.

Across more than 80 recipes, Danielle shares the dishes she believes are genuinely worth making at home — recipes that balance ease with flavour and are designed to become favourites rather than one-off projects.

Expect food that is seasonal, generous and full of flavour, with Danielle’s signature ability to make something familiar feel new again.

Whether you’re cooking for yourself, feeding the family, hosting friends or simply looking for inspiration for your next dinner, Made Simple is designed to make the process feel less intimidating and much more enjoyable.

It’s a cookbook to keep on the bench, return to regularly and slowly make your own.
